In a recent Facebook post, a meme claimed that “In 1861, 11 senators and 3 representatives were expelled from Congress for supporting the insurrection and refusing to recognize Abraham Lincoln’s electoral vote win.” They closed the meme with a vindictive and hilarious “JUST POINTING THAT OUT”
Well there’s something we’d like to point out, and we’re literally laughing our asses off as we try and compose this post. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THE SENATORS THAT WAS EXPELLED WAS A DEMOCRAT!
At the end of the day, there was a dozen congressmen from 1861 who were expelled for being racists POS’s that wanted to keep their slaves and decided to use the electoral system to try and get their way. The current day congressmen that are objecting to the electoral votes are doing so because there’s been proven fraud on a mass scale which throws into serious question the legitimacy of the 2020 election. There’s a massive difference between wanting to keep your slaves and wanting to ensure a secure and fair election.
Since we published the article, Facebook has surprisingly fact-checked and I’ll point out that the meme has now been “fact-checked” the original meme and indicated that it was “Partly False Information,” explaining that it is out of context.
According to an article we found on the official website for the US Senate, the following ten senators were expelled on July 11, 1861.
- James Murray Mason (Democrat from Virginia)
- Robert M. T. Hunter (Democrat from Virginia)
- Thomas Lanier Clingman (Democrat from North Carolina)
- Thomas Bragg (Democrat from North Carolina)
- James Chesnut Jr. (Democrat from South Carolina)
- Alfred O. P. Nicholson (Democrat from Tennessee)
- William K. Sebastian (Democrat from Arkansas)
- Charles B. Mitchel (Democrat from Arkansas)
- John Hemphill (Democrat from Texas)
- Louis Wigfall (Democrat from Texas)
The problem with liberal politics is that they completely mislead people with posts like this to play on their followers’ already profound prejudice and contempt for anything that counters their liberal ideology and makes it appear that whatever they post points out malfeasance on the right.
It’s blatantly obvious that the creator of the meme left out the fact that these Senators that were expelled were Democrats. They depend on the likelihood that people won’t bother to look this up like we just did.. Every single one that was expelled was a Democrat..
Of-course the post that we saw that prompted us to write this article went completely unmolested by Facebook fact-checkers even though there is a blatant lack of context here, so there’s that… Oh, and low-and beholw, just look at who the original poster is!. LOLOLOLOL
